The Leathercoated Minds

The Leathercoated Thoughts were a LA studio-only group, formed for the express reason for exploiting both sound and image of the L.A. psychedelic picture circa 1966-1967. Their single record, the LP A VACATION Down the Sunset Remove, was released on the tiny Viva label in 1967 because — as Viva main Snuff Garrett candidly kept in mind within the liner records towards the 2006 Compact disc reissue — “we’d a real great (picture) shot of Sunset Boulevard and we required an album to go along with it.” Appropriately, the LP presented hastily recorded addresses of a number of the hippest strikes of 1966 — “Eight Kilometers High,” “Psychotic Response,” “Over Under Sideways Down,” “Sunlight Superman,” “Mr. Tambourine Guy,” “Along Shows up Mary” — and a few filler psychedelic instrumentals. The record offers its curiosity for collectors, nevertheless, since those filler instrumentals had been written by a J.J. Cale, who also created and played acoustic guitar on the recording.
