The King Bees

NY, USA-based contemporaries from the Vagrants as well as the Myddle Course, this excellent R&B outfit comprised Danny Kortchmar aka Danny Kootch (b. 6 Apr 1946, Larchmont, NY, USA; acoustic guitar), John McDuffy (body organ/vocals), Dickie Frank (bass) and Joel ‘Bishop’ O’Brien (b. 1943, USA, d. 9 Sept 2004, LA, California, USA; drums). The quartet finished three superb singles during its short existence, including a notable edition of ‘Shed WITHIN THE Shuffle’, also documented by Blues Task. McDuffy changed Al Kooper within the second option act following a Ruler Bees’ disintegration in fall months 1966. Kortchmar and O’Brien resurfaced within the Soaring Machine, a music group which also presented Wayne Taylor, and had been ultimately reunited in Jo Mama within the wake from the guitarist’s spells within the Fugs, Crystal clear Light and Town.
