The Killer and the Star

Ostensibly a solo project of Scooter Ward, frontman for Jacksonville post-grunge wailers Cold, the Killer as well as the Star have a even more orchestral, even more melodic method of alternative rock than Ward’s original band. Ward’s vocals, frequently playfully tweaked by Auto-Tune, carefully soar over elaborate compositions that bask in piano power pop with goth hooks. Ward initial envisioned his brand-new task as the Witch in 2006, and after finally buying the Killer as well as the Star for the moniker, he recruited a touring music group that included percussionist Rocky Grey (previously of Evanescence) and bassist Michael Harris of Idiot Pilot. Their eponymous debut (made by Ross Robinson, who also helmed the planks on Cold’s 1st album) premiered in July of 2009.
