The Jags certainly are a fondly remembered one-hit wonder from the later-70s U.K. power pop explosion. The quartet was produced in 1978 from the Yorkshire-based songwriting group of Nick Watkins (vocals) and John “Twink” Adler (acoustic guitar), with Steve Prudence (bass) and Alex Baird (drums). In July of 1978, they authorized to Island Information and released a encouraging four-track EP. Their debut LP in 1980, Evening Requirements, included the unforgettable, though extremely derivative, “Back again of My Hands,” which experienced reached the U.K. Best 40 the prior fall. The follow-up, “Woman’s Globe” hardly scraped its method to the graphs. Though Evening Requirements featured an extremely solid group of punchy power pop tunes, critics focussed rather on Watkins’ Costello-like delivery, composing the music group off as simply mimics. As vapor ran from the power pop trend, the band attemptedto change their audio a little. 1981’s No Connect Just like the Present presented a slightly fresh direction, nonetheless it was generally overlooked. By 1982, the Jags experienced disbanded once and for all, though “Back again of My Hands” experienced a revival of types within the ’90s, showing up on many compilations.
