The Host

The Host can be an alias of Irish electronic musician Barry Lynn, who first became known through the mid-2000s for his releases on Globe Mu beneath the name Boxcutter. These recordings combined jagged breakbeats and glitches using the large sub-bass of grime and dubstep, and his design was often referred to as “breakstep.” By enough time of Boxcutter’s 4th record, The Dissolve (2011), his audio acquired smoothed out a little, embracing classic synth-funk and disco affects, and dipping into tape-damaged chillwave. In 2012, Lynn debuted the Host using a self-titled record on Globe Mu that additional spun faraway from the Boxcutter audio, embracing the frenetic rhythms of footwork while glancing back again at ’90s cyberspace.
