The Hooters


Best remembered for the string of mid-’80s hits like the MTV staple “And We Danced,” Philadelphia rockers the Hooters were led by singer/keyboardist Rob Hyman and singer/guitarist Eric Bazilian, whose longtime creative relationship also yielded hits for performers including Cyndi Lauper and Joan Osborne. Hyman and Bazilian initial teamed within the group Baby Grand, which also included upcoming manufacturer Rick Chertoff; following a couple of LPs for Arista, the music group dissolved in 1978, using the Hooters developing immediately after. Also including guitarist John Lilley, bassist Rob Miller, and drummer David Uosikkinen, the group honed an eclectic mixture of rock and roll, folk, and ska, acquiring their name from the melodica, or “hooter,” which lent their audio its distinctive advantage; as the Hooters gained a committed cult following in the home in Philadelphia, Hyman and Bazilian also appreciated busy professions as composers and program players, especially contributing thoroughly to Cyndi Lauper’s 1983 blockbuster She’s Therefore Unusual. The record was made by Chertoff, who co-wrote the oft-covered ballad “TIME UPON TIME” with Hyman. The Hooters’ debut LP, Amore, made an appearance in the small regional imprint Antenna in 1983 aswell, as well as the group released its main label debut, Anxious Evening, in 1985 upon putting your signature on to Columbia.
