The Honorary Title

Biography

The Brooklyn-based alternative rock quartet the Honorary Title initially formed being a duo between vocalist/lyricist/guitarist Jarrod Gorbel and bassist/multi-instrumentalist Aaron Kamstra in 2003. Gorbel, who used electric guitar at 13 while surviving in the Long Isle suburbs, trim his tooth playing single gigs in Manhattan’s downtown locations before teaming up with Kamstra, an N.Con.C. transplant from Indiana. The pair’s focus on acoustic-based hooks and soul-baring narratives seduced the eye of Dashboard Confessional’s Chris Carrabba, who handpicked them as Dashboard’s starting act for some touring schedules in fall 2002. The warm-up slot machine generated label curiosity, as well as the Honorary Name inked a cope with Ohio-based indie Doghouse Information in Sept 2003. A self-titled EP offering only Gorbel made an appearance in 2003, while a debut record featuring both music artists, Anything Else However the Truth, implemented the next summer months. The Honorary Name embarked on a slew of travels to get their debut, striking the street with such works as the Structure, Switchfoot, Lucero, and Acquiring Back Sunday. A short headlining tour alongside Limbeck in Feb 2006 resulted in the reissue of the debut (with five reward monitors and two music movies) afterwards that month, while a agreement with main label Reprise Information (beneath the Warner umbrella) implemented immediately after. In expectation of their sophomore discharge, the band released a brief EP, Untouched & Intact, in July 2007. Filled with two B-sides and two brand-new monitors, the EP also announced the advertising of previous touring associates Jon Wiley (keyboards/electric guitar) and Adam Boyd (drums) as full-fledged bandmates. The Honorary Title’s second full-length record, Scream & LIGHT the Sky, premiered the next month, having a fuller sound even more similar to contemporaries Rock and roll Kills Child and Jimmy Eat Globe compared to the band’s previously acoustic material.
