The Hollywood Argyles

The Hollywood Argyles were a quickie act thrown together by producers Kim Fowley and Gary Paxton and featuring Sandy Nelson. Fowley produced his initial recordings with drummer Nelson through the past due ’50s and acquired already produced several short-lived groupings — like the Paradons as well as the Innocents — and discovered his first flavor of achievement by creating a handful of effective efforts by Az schoolmates Gary (“Turn”) Paxton and Clyde (“Neglect”) Battin, who performed beneath the name Neglect & Turn, and have scored two Best 20 strikes in 1959, “Cherry Pie,” (amount 11 Pop) and “IT HAD BEEN I” (amount 11 Pop). Soon after dissolving Neglect & Turn, Paxton and Fowley made a novelty doo wop-inspired group — a one-off collective of regional music artists and vocalists — and known as them the Hollywood Argyles. In 1960, this “group” in fact topped the graphs with the main smash strike “Alley Oop,” a flagrant Coasters ripoff that were created and performed by upcoming country musician Dallas Frazier a couple of years previously in 1957. It had been based on a favorite newspaper comic remove character at that time. Fowley and Nelson, drunk as skunks, bashed clear containers and wastepaper baskets. Because the group weren’t simply anything more than the usual assortment of Fowley’s music-making affiliates, they didn’t possess a follow-up, and Fowley and Paxton shifted. In October of this same year, both signed a creation cope with Bob Keene’s Del-Fi Information, saving a follow-up known as “Alley Oop Cha Cha Cha,” while Paxton drawled out the same lyrics towards the “Alley Oop” strike. It was acknowledged towards the Prehistorics.
