The Groobees, natives of Amarillo, TX, are a fantastic pop-folk music group with strong country leanings. Their eponymous debut record for Blix Road Records showcases exceptional and tasteful ensemble shows. These are led by Susan Gibson’s exceptional vocals, which sometimes are similar to a countrified Mary Travers. Excellent. The band is certainly a five-piece, as well as the agreements are augmented by exceptional playing from Scott Mellot, who switches very easily from keyboards to guitars, which he frequently has with Gibson and Gary Thomason. Gibson’s music are well-crafted, extremely personal country-pop affairs, with only a hint of cool rock & move to keep carefully the entire thing continue. “WIDELY OPEN Areas,” a tune compiled by Gibson (which finished up on the self entitled second discharge), was documented by fellow Texans the Dixie Chicks and continued to be always a country hit, ultimately earning a CMA award in 1998.
