The Frays

The Frays were notable as an early on group association for Mike Patto, ahead of his association with Timebox and his solo career, although his involvement using the group is more rumor than very difficult fact. The music group, such as it had been, cut a set of singles for British Decca in 1965, including a cover of “Hold on Sloopy” offering Nicky Hopkins in the piano that didn’t chart. Their finest recorded work, nevertheless, was the B-side of their debut, “Maintain Me Protected,” which is undoubtedly something of the mid-’60s English R&B classic.
