Following the 2007 split of R&B duo Floetry, spoken phrase artist and whisper-voiced vocalist Natalie Stewart — aka the Floacist — produced a small number of guest appearances on recordings by other musicians, including Brian Culbertson’s XII. She agreed upon being a single artist towards the Shanachie label, which released her debut record, Floetic Spirit, in November 2010. Dominated by seductive ballads offering Stewart’s brand breathy whispers, she benefited from collaborations with Musiq Soulchild, Raheem DeVaughn, and Lalah Hathaway, along with creation insight from J.R. Hutson, Know-I, and Chris “Big Pup” Davis. It scraped the Billboard 200 using a debut at amount 195 and reached the very best 20 from the R&B albums graph. Almost exactly 2 yrs afterwards, she released Floetry Re:Delivery — made by her hubby, Nolan Weekes — for the same label. It topped out at amount 51, R&B. Supported once more by Davis, amongst others, Stewart came back with Rise from the Phoenix Mermaid in March 2014.
