The Five Encores

In November of 1955, George Goldner authorized this pop-rock quintet that presented a honking sax along with a driving master in its sound, evidently searching for another Bill Haley & His Comets. Regrettably, the Five Encores by no means captured the public’s elegant, despite a one great, catchy quantity (“One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Ale”) that could have been a touch too adult for teenagers to accept, and another (“Readin’, Ritin’, ‘Rithmetic Rock and roll ‘n Move”) which was as well generic. They vanished from Rama Information and the globe of documented music following the singles in early 1956, rather than even managed to get in to the Alan Freed jukebox film that they’d been announced.
