Biography
The Five Blobs was the name given the studio group, led by sessionman Bernie Nee, assembled for the recording from the title song “The Blob,” by Burt Bacharach and Mack David (sibling from the more famous Hal David, who afterwards became Bacharach’s longtime songwriting partner). The tune, a sax-driven dance amount much like “Tequila” with the Champs, was created for the feature film The Blob, starring Steve McQueen, Aneta Corseaut, Earl Rowe, and Robert Areas, released in 1958. Released on Columbia Information as an individual, it made the very best 40 nationally and the very best ten in LA.
