The Films

Tuneful indie pop band the Films was shaped in 2003 by 4 senior high school friends from Charleston, SC — lead vocalist and guitarist Michael Trent, guitarist and keyboard player Kenneth Harris, bassist Jake Sinclair, and drummer Adam C. Blake. Citing an array of affects from Tom Petty to Elliott Smith, the Movies quickly produced a name for themselves on the neighborhood music picture, and began dispersing the term through regular touring in the South and Western world. The group’s debut documenting, a self-titled EP, premiered by the indie Filtration system label in 2005, plus they produced their major-label bow a season later using a four-song EP Getting Bored, released by Reprise in nov 2006. Their romantic relationship with Reprise became short-lived, as well as the Movies’ 1st full-length recording, Don’t Dance Rattlesnake, arrived on the Western 7Hz label. After shifting from Charleston to Denver, the music group drawn up stakes once again, this time around relocating to NY. They self-released their second recording, Oh, Scorpio, in the summertime of 2009 through several digital retailers. In the mean time, singer Trent held himself occupied with several additional tasks, including a self-titled acoustic single recording, a side task with Cary Ann Hearst called Shovels & Rope, and some collaborative songwriting classes with Butch Walker, many songs that finished up on Walker’s 2010 recording I Liked It Better when YOU’D No Heart.
