The Even Dozen Jug Band

Biography

The Even Dozen Jug Band was less a band when compared to a short-lived project thrown jointly on the height from the jug band craze in 1964 toward the finish from the American Folk Revival. Like various other jug bands from the period, the Also Dozen Jug Music group loosely structured their design on jug music group music in the 1920s (the Memphis Jug Music group and Cannon’s Jug Stompers) and relied on uncommon equipment like kazoos, jugs, and washboards. Unlike various other jug bands from the period, the Also Dozen Jug Music group boasted a massive line-up that included potential notables like John Sebastian (the Adoring Spoonful) and Maria Muldaur. Within the band’s brief life time, it played hardly any live dates, nonetheless it do leave behind a fantastic self-titled LP in 1964 for Elektra. While frequently overshadowed by music group people later accomplishments, The Actually Dozen Jug Music group is among the most recognized albums from the past due revival. Unlike the countless protest songs from the period, “Consider Your Fingertips Off It” and “Advancement Mama” provided no deeper moral message than to truly have a good period. This insufficient seriousness was a sobering smack in the facial skin towards the revival’s self-righteous streak. The instrumental function, presented on “Unique Colossal Pull Rag” and “The Actually Dozens,” was loose and daring, inviting viewers to start their sneakers and dance. The recording also included several sexually suggestive tracks–“SERIOUSLY In” and “All EXHAUSTED”–that would’ve under no circumstances shown through to a Joan Baez recording. The Actually Dozen Jug Music group eventually fell aside once the members–many who have been very young–chose residing in college over hitting the street to market the group. Still, as Richie Unterberger described within the liner records to The Actually Dozen Jug Music group, a lot of the people eventually moved into the music business in a few capability. Steve Katz became a member of Blood, Perspiration, & Tears while David Grisman shaped his personal quintet within the ’70s. After carrying out with another jug music group (Jim Kweskin), Muldaur became a single designer in her personal right, scoring a large strike with “Midnight for the Oasis” in the first ’70s. Stefan Grossman setup his own acoustic guitar workshop while Joshua Rifkin worked well as an arranger with Judy Collins. All people, however, could constantly look back again with a degree of satisfaction at their 1st musical business. After 40 years, The Actually Dozen Jug Music group continues to be sassy, irreverent, & most of most, fun.
