The Early Years

London, England’s the first Years feature David Malkinson (vocals/acoustic guitar), Roger Mackin (acoustic guitar), and Phil Raines (drums). Built with an amp, a power guitar, and a variety of impact pedals, Malkinson required only a arbitrary one-off single gig as the impetus to assemble collectively his two close friends — Mackin and Raines — to create the first Years in 2004. In a short time, the band’s demonstration got in the hands of BBC Radio 1 sponsor Steve Lamacq. Both Lamacq and XFM’s John Kennedy championed the first Years’ soaring space rock and roll stylings, which attract influence through the droning feedback from the Verve, Spiritualized, Can, as well as the Velvet Underground. THE FIRST Years found its way to the U.K. in Sept 2006 while times with iLIKETRAINS adopted in November. Stateside enthusiasts finally got their practical the trio’s self-titled debut in January 2007; THE FANTASTIC Awakening EP, the first Years’ second launch for Beggars Banquet, came that April.
