Biography

The Durutti Column was primarily the automobile of Vini Reilly, a guitarist born in Manchester, Britain, in 1953. As a kid, Reilly first used the piano, sketching motivation from greats like Artwork Tatum and Excess fat Waller, before understanding how to play electric guitar at age ten. Despite an early on passion for folk and jazz, Reilly eventually became embroiled with the punk motion, and in 1977 he became a member of the group Ed Banger & the Nosebleeds. In 1978, Manufacturer Records creator Tony Wilson asked Reilly to become listed on an organization dubbed the Durutti Column, the name motivated with the Spanish Civil Battle anarchist Buenaventura Durruti along with a Situationists Internationale comic remove from the 1960s.
