The Dear Janes are an Anglo-American duo comprising Barbara Marsh and Ginny Clee (whose husband was former Shriekback bass player Simon Edwards) who came together in London in 1992. Although that they had fulfilled before, both finally fell collectively in the urging of shared friend Pete Smith, who contribute lyrics for some of the musical endeavors. Having a stripped-down, folk-influenced audio and insightful lyrics as phone cards, the set issued Occasionally I, that was documented in Clee’s cellar, in 1994. They gained places as on several tours, going on the highway with acts like the Proclaimers, The Noticed Doctors, and Mary Dark. By 1996, that they had inked a cope with Geffen and documented No Pores and skin at Peter Gabriel’s REAL LIFE studios. Nevertheless, despite a build up of positive notices, the record’s industrial fortunes had been limited plus they joined a protracted battle to keep their label. The trouble led to the forming of their very own label, Sore Thumb, and, in 2002, The Dear Janes released Skirt, which presented the monitor “Dispatch, co-written by Syd Straw along with Billy Bragg guesting.
