The Dappers


The Dappers were at projects spearheaded by doo wop stalwart Gregory Carroll, most widely known for his stint using the legendary Orioles. Blessed John Carroll on Baltimore’s northwest aspect, he initial surfaced with Savoy Information doo wop action the Four Buddies, who in 1951 reached number 3 over the Billboard R&B graph with “I’LL Wait.” Following the Four Buddies divide, Carroll agreed upon on using the Orioles within the springtime of 1953, changing George Nelson in the next tenor place. He became a member of the group with time to record the immortal “Crying within the Chapel,” and pursuing their breakup within the springtime of 1955 he considered a profession in creation. By year’s end Carroll reunited with fellow Four Buddies alum Larry Harrison to create the Dappers, recruiting baritone Zeke Puzey and bass Jerome Robinson to finish the lineup. Carroll continued to become listed on Dappers alumni Harrison and Puzey within the Cues, manufacturer Abel DeCosta’s go-to program vocalists, and in 1960 created a program for previous Orioles frontman Sonny Til. Immediately after Carroll and Al Showell produced the gospel quartet the Halos with Doc Wheeler along with a then-unknown Doris Troy. In 1963, Carroll co-wrote and created Troy’s solo traditional “JUST ONE SINGLE Look,” a high Ten crossover strike and one from the long lasting soul information of its period. Carroll eventually toured with latter-day incarnations from the Orioles as well as the Ink Spots.
