The Curtains of Night

Created in Chapel Hill, NC, the Drapes of Night consider sludge/doom and distill it right down to its simplest elements. The duo, composed of guitarist and vocalist Nora Rodgers and drummer Lauren Fitzpatrick, adhere to the requirements, casting apart the swirling synthesizers that have become increasingly more common in the genre, as well as bass, for the simpleness of thundering drums and dense, droning guitar performed through homemade amps. The music group captures the fact of Southern doom tasks by luminaries like Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson (Khanate, Burning up Witch, Goatsnake), creating music that attracts the listener along with crawling, individual riffs that gradually unfold within the hypnotic drumming, and then pounce with them with Rodgers’ anguished vocals. In 2008, the group released their full-length debut, Shed House, on Vacations for Quince.
