Essentially a duo of Jon Fried and Deena Shoshkes (both of whom strum and sing), the Cucumbers arrived of America’s indie rock underground in the first ’80s, showing an affection for infectious jangle pop overlaid with lyrics talking about romantic uncertainty. After documenting an EP for the Fake Doom label in 1983, the group released its 1st recording, Who Betrays Me…ALONG WITH OTHER Happier Songs, 2 yrs later on. A self-titled LP in 1987 exposed an evergrowing maturity — not really especially welcome, provided the Cucumbers’ charm — as well as the group was silent for over seven years before documenting Where We Rest Tonight in 1994.
