The Crook Brothers

The Crook Brothers must contain the long-service record for performers over the Grand Ole Opry. They initial performed theOpry in 1926, just weeks following the programme was made and remained onto it until 1988. The duo comprised Herman Crook (b. 2 Dec 1899, Scottsboro, Tennessee, USA, d. 10 June 1988; harmonica) and Matthew Crook (b. 1896, Scottsboro, Tennessee, USA. d. time unidentified; harmonica). They initial played for regional dances and on WDAD Nashville so when George D. Hay noticed them, he asked these to play on WSM. They started regularOpry appearances but additionally performed on WBAW and WLAC Nashville. Herman, who generally treated his music as entertainment, worked being a cigar roller to get a tobacco business. The brothers documented four instrumentals for RCA – Victor Information in 1928, which offered well but remarkably were the only real recordings from the Crook Brothers until 1962. In 1929, having currently added a pianist and guitarist, the brothers, after becoming released by Dr. Humphrey Bate in a fiddler’s competition, were further strengthened by Lewis Crook (b. 30 Might 1909, Trousdale Region, Tennessee, USA, d. 12 Apr 1997) on banjo, acoustic guitar and vocals.
