The Concretes

Biography

The Stockholm-based pop collective the Concretes were formed in 1995 by vocalist Victoria Bergsman, guitarist Maria Eriksson, and drummer Lisa Milberg; during the period of 3 years, they added guitarist Markus, bassist Martin Hansson, organist Per Nystrom, trumpeter Ulrik Karlsson, and vocalist/harmonica participant Malte. Malte and Nystrom had been playing in various other bands within the Stockholm picture; Eriksson and Bergsman had been art school learners; and Milberg proved helpful at among the city’s graphical design companies. The Concretes released their initial EP (helpfully called EP #1) in 1998 and implemented it, logically, with EP #2 (aka The Lipstick Model) the next calendar year. In 2000, the Concretes mixed these EPs to their full-length debut, Boy, You Better Work Now, in middle-2000 on Up Information. However, soon after the album’s discharge, Up creator Chris Takino passed away of leukemia, as well as the Concretes discovered themselves with out a label. The Nationalgeographic EP found its way to 2001, but because of difficulties with the aforementioned Ground label, it had been nearly impossible to get. On the way, the Concretes also added guitarist Daniel Varjo and horn participant Ludvig Rylander with their flip. They formed their very own Licking Fingertips imprint, which they released the Pushes one in 2002. Two even more singles, You Can’t Rush Appreciate and Warm Evening, found its way to 2003 and heralded the discharge from the band’s correct debut, The Concretes. Astralwerks released The Concretes within the U.S. in 2004. A calendar year afterwards, the B-sides and rarities comp Layourbattleaxedown — which collected a lot of the band’s result between Boy, You Better Operate Now as well as the Concretes — appeared. The band shipped more low-key, gleaming indie pop with 2006’s In Color. The following calendar year, Bergsman still left the group to spotlight her folky solo task Taken by Trees and shrubs, but the remaining music group regrouped quickly, with Millberg overtaking vocal responsibilities on 2007’s Hey Problems. Nevertheless, 2010’s dance-influenced WYWH was the 1st Concretes album offering Millberg on vocals released in america.
