The Besnard Lakes

The Besnard Lakes raise immediate comparisons towards the Arcade Open fire, but those are primarily because of accidents of geography and music group chemistry: just like the Arcade Open fire, the Besnard Lakes are from Montreal and led with a married couple. That’s mainly where the commonalities end, because if this Quebecois collective resembles some of its Canadian counterparts, it might be as an unexpectedly effective mix of the Dears’ psychedelic pop hooks as well as the languid space rock and roll atmosphere of early Broken Public Scene. These married couple, vocalist and guitarist Jace Lasek and vocalist and bassist Olga Goreas, produced the Besnard Lakes in 2001 being a sideline to Lasek’s time work as an in-demand manufacturer on the Montreal documenting studio room he and Goreas very own, Breakglass Studios.
