A Los Angeles-based power pop clothing formed by Paul Collins (ex-Nerves), the Defeat recorded its self-titled debut LP after putting your signature on to Columbia Information in 1979. Despite great reviews plus some local success, the record didn’t make much influence. Another attempt, 1982’s THE YOUNGSTERS Will be the Same (this time around acknowledged to Paul Collins’ Defeat), also failed and successfully split up the music group. However, Collins came back the following season using a harder-rocking lineup including Patti Smith Group drummer Jay Dee Daugherty. Their EP, To Defeat or Never to Defeat, was again overlooked; it became the band’s last documenting. While it appeared that this Beat’s only state to fame will be forcing the (British) Defeat to improve its name within the U.S., their albums are actually seen as traditional types of power pop. Paul Collins came back to a single career in to the ’90s, putting your signature on to Wagon Steering wheel Records.
