The Battlefield Band

Biography

The Battlefield Music group has shown to be among the longest running institutions of Scottish music. At their inception in 1969, these were perhaps one of the most ambitious young groupings around, blending traditional music with some rock and roll and pop, and also in enough time since, they’ve continued to be somewhat up to date with trends, but not just as much as those who’ve implemented within their footsteps and occasionally overtaken them. But that’s great, they have an appropriate niche along with a devoted following. Through the ’70s, Scots music was quite definitely a live matter, limited to the folk night clubs, with very little considered the recording studio room. As well as the Battlefield Music group, under the command of Brian McNeill, spent a lot of the 10 years finding their ft — certainly, McNeill was developing by leaps and bounds like a songwriter, which discovered its first bloom on “The Lads O’ the Good” on 1980’s House can be Where the Vehicle can be, where subtle electrical arrangements met a normal sound. They adopted that up with a straight stronger disc, There is a Buzz, and in 1984, Anthem for the normal Guy, where some employees changes earned vocalist Alistair Russell and noticed a more politics tone creep in to the lyrics — a a reaction to Margaret Thatcher. Even more lineup changes adopted, rendering it hard for the music group to obtain a understand on who these were as well as for the second option half of the ’80s, they appeared to be adrift as can be evident through the enjoyable but unspectacular live disc House Ground, released in 1989, and the issue became a lot more acute following a departure of McNeill in 1990 for an acclaimed single career. Nevertheless, his alternative, virtuoso fiddler and vocalist John McCusker brought a fresh energy towards the music group. However, it took many years for a fresh identity to say itself, until 1997’s outstanding Across the Edges, which discovered them once more at the elevation of their forces. There is still the essential Battlefield Music group audio, but on albums like Rainfall, Hail or Glow they sounded assured and actually pleased to become playing again. Which has continuing over several even more albums into 2001’s Content Daze, in which a slimmed-down lineup still satisfies, even though there aren’t fireworks whenever they grab their tools. 2002’s Period and Tide cut back vocalist Pat Kilbride to the blend, following a 20-yr abscence, who after that remained on for Out for the night time in 2004.
