The Baluchi Ensemble of Karachi

Hailing from a stateless area between Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan, the Baluchi Outfit of Karachi incorporate Indian and Arab affects to their Middle Eastern Gypsy-style music. Performing mainly at wedding ceremonies and social occasions, the group continues to be linked with the Persian bardic custom, but create a trance-inducing audio that www.lightworks.com called “hypnotic, yet seeing that fragrant seeing that perfume.” Associated with benju (a dulcimer with key pad), tambureg (lute), and dholak (a kind of Indian tanbur drum), the sarud (a lap fiddle manufactured from wood using a goat epidermis as its sounding plank) continues to be the dominant tone of voice from the Baluchi Outfit of Karachi. Like Tracks and Trance Hymns, the Baluchi Outfit of Karachi’s 1997 recording, was recorded within the Baluchi Quarters in Karachi, Pakistan.
