The Balky Mule

The Balky Mule may be the project of Australia-via-England songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Sam Jones. Jones used a few of Bristol’s best-known post-rock rings, including Movietone, Soaring Saucer Assault, Minotaur Surprise, and Crescent, whose creator Matt is definitely Jones’ sibling. Jones started playing and saving by himself in the past due ’90s, issuing self-released tapes and CDs and remixes of songs by Pram and Vase; the Balky Mule’s self-titled debut recording made an appearance in 2000 within the Jones brothers’ Archipelago label. Among the demos Jones delivered to the FatCat label finished up on the 2001 compilation, No Watches. No Maps. Jones spent five years — including a proceed to Australia in 2006 — documenting his second recording, The Length from the Rail, using aged and frequently malfunctioning devices, including a Bentley Carousel house organ. THE SPACE from the Rail premiered in springtime 2009.
