The Avant Garden

The Avant Backyard performed a distinctive mixture of spirited fusion, blending rock, jazz, space rock, and psychedelia to make a complex, multi-layered soundscape. An intense, high-energy foursome from Sacramento, CA, the group created in 1993. Originally phoning themselves Spirit Group, they experienced several personnel adjustments, buying their last lineup in 1997: Flamp Sorari on flute and alto sax, innovator Brian Gould on guitars, Kilometers Gilster on bass, and Jason Kenney on drums. The Avant Backyard started playing concerts in California in 2000, and distributed phases with such performers as Melting Euphoria, Deus Ex lover Machina, Mushroom, and Spock’s Beard. With maker Chris Dugan they documented their debut recording, Maelstrom, in 1999, enlisting multi-instrumentalist Steve Roach to include his inventive contact to several songs. It required until 2002 to allow them to launch the recording to substantial acclaim from intensifying music followers; the first pressing of their Compact disc sold-out quickly. Nevertheless, the financial realities to be a prog fusion group from Sacramento became much too great, as well as the band silently disbanded later on that year.
