Terry Smith

While he could be most widely known being a guitarist in the British jazz-rock music group If, Terry Smith were only available in the 1960s London jazz picture, though he also gained knowledge outside jazz by touring with spirit singer J.J. Jackson and documenting with Georgie Popularity. In 1967 he was called Greatest Jazz Guitarist with a Melody Machine poll, and quickly afterward, he produced a ten-piece music group to back again pop vocalist Scott Walker on tour. Walker was also in charge of allowing Smith to record a single record in 1968, FALLOUT. Although Walker created the LP aswell, it had been straight-ahead instrumental contemporary jazz without strong similarity towards the music Smith performed within his music group. Instead, it highlighted Smith in both big music group and little combo configurations, playing high-grade post-bop electric guitar on a combined mix of pop criteria and (with the tiny combo) organ-guitar-drums groove-oriented primary compositions. Smith after that produced If with saxophonist Dick Morrissey, and was using the group for many albums in the first ’70s.
