Terry Robb

Northwest guitarist Terry Robb has played blues in lots of different formats over time, including in electric powered and acoustic configurations, using a trio, so when a solo musician. He started playing as a kid, prompted by an uncle who was simply a professional golf swing jazz guitarist. Soon after he started playing, Robb became enamored with blues, ragtime, traditional jazz, and nation guitar players, however he created his very own eclectic design. In university at Portland Condition University, he researched music theory with Czechoslovakian composer Tomas Svoboda. After graduation, he toured with Captain Beefheart/Frank Zappa alumnus Rex Jakabosky, slicing his teeth for the Northwest’s membership and celebration circuits. In the first ’80s, Robb became friendly using the past due folk-blues guitarist and composer John Fahey. Fahey afterwards asked him to create and perform on many of his recordings, and something of these produces, 1983’s RELEASE, (Varrick/Rounder Information), was cited by Rolling Rock magazine among the best three releases of this season. He also collaborated with fellow Northwest bluesman Curtis Salgado on Strike It ‘n Quit It (Lucky Information). Although he hasn’t toured very much nationally under his very own name, Robb comes with an intensive discography. His sessionography contains shows on recordings by Fahey, Sheila Wilcoxson, Alice Stuart, Gary Burford, and Paul Brasch, amongst others. Robb’s recordings under his personal name include Private Man, Acoustic Blues Trio (1994), and prevent This Globe (1996) for Burnside Information, a Portland-based label, in addition to Jelly Behind sunlight (House Information), Next Windows (House Information), and Center Made of Metal so when I Play My Blues Acoustic guitar (both Burnside Information). Lately, Robb recorded Relaxing Place for the Memphis-based Yellow Doggie Records. Robb offers toured with Curtis Salgado, Steve Miller, and Pal Guy. He is constantly on the tour and record, mainly around Portland and Seattle.
