Carreno received early lessons from her dad, who’s also credited for developing her solid feeling of self-criticism, to which she attributed her achievement. She also researched with Gottschalk and later on with Anton Rubinstein. She was extremely effective in Germany, where she resided for over 30 years. The majority of her compositions had been for piano, although a pastime in strings motivated her to create a String Quartet in B small.
