Tellu

An all-female group shaped after fiddler/vocalist Tellu Virkkala (formerly Tellu Paulasto) still left Swedish/Finnish ensemble Hedningarna in 1996, Tellu has continued to supply a musical system for Virkkala’s folk-rooted compositions, virtuosic fiddling, and multi-octave vocals. The group provides enabled Virkkala to place her schooling and history to make use of. She spent six years learning Sami lifestyle in the folk section of Sibelius Academy and a calendar year learning Hardanger fiddle playing in Norway. Tellu’s debut record, Suden Aika (Period of the Wolf), premiered in 1998.
