Ted Rosenthal

An excellent modern mainstream pianist, Ted Rosenthal first gained popularity when he won the next annual Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition in 1988. In 1990 he documented his debut established as a head for Ken and it has since recorded being a head for CTI, the Jazz Alliance, Concord (including an entrance in the renowned Maybeck Recital Hall series), Playscape, Globe Arts, and Venus Information. Rosenthal worked within the last Gerry Mulligan Quartet during 1992-1995, producing three CDs using the baritonist. He in addition has worked with Artwork Farmer, Jon Faddis, Benny Golson, Adam Moody, Jim Hall, Phil Woods, Mel Lewis, Lee Konitz, and Michael Brecker, among numerous others, with David Sanborn over the NBC series Evening Music. His recordings through the 2000s possess included 2004’s One Evening in Vermont (a Globe Arts live time in duet with trombonist Bob Brookmeyer), 2006’s The Ruler and I (a Venus Information discharge with Rosenthal within a trio with bassist George Mraz and drummer Lewis Nash, interpreting music in the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical), and 2008’s My Crazy Valentine (also on Venus Information in addition to a trio time, with Mraz coming back on bass with Al Foster on drums, interpreting jazz criteria in the repertoire of Helen Merrill). Released this year 2010, the Playscape label documenting Impromptu highlighted Rosenthal interpreting the functions of traditional composers (Brahms, Chopin, Mozart, Puccini, Schubert, Schumann, and Tchaikovsky) with bassist Noriko Ueda and drummer Quincy Davis. Ted Rosenthal graduated in the Manhattan College of Music and acts as a faculty member there; he’s also over the faculties from the Juilliard College and the brand new College/Mannes University of Music.
