Concerned with problems with respect to authenticity and folklore research, Teca Calazans also offers had observed activity both as performer and composer, having documented functions by Villa-Lobos, Pixinguinha, and old-time sambistas. Her compositions have already been documented by Milton Nascimento, Gal Costa, and Nara Leão. Calazans documented her first recording in 1967 using the marchinha “Aquela Rosa” (Geraldo Azevedo/Carlos Fernando) and “Cirandas” (folklore gathered and modified by herself). She relocated to Rio de Janeiro in 1968, where she worked well as actress within the Teatro Opinião with Television Globo. In 1970, Calazans departed for France, where she remained for a decade inside a duo with vocalist/composer Ricardo Vilas, Teca e Ricardo. They toured European countries, documenting five LPs in France. Coming back in 1979 to Brazil, the duo documented two additional LPs and split up. Calazans began her solo profession in 1982 using the LP Teca Calazans. In 1988, she was appointed to become the vocalist inside a tribute towards the a century of Villa-Lobos, yielding the recording Teca Calazans Chante Villa-Lobos, released internationally in 1990. Calazans came back definitively to France in 1989, carrying on to execute and record.
