Biography
Tarus Mateen is among the even more sought-after acoustic and electrical bassists in the jazz picture. He in addition has made his tag with a number of R&B and hip-hop performers, as both a bassist along with a maker. A graduate of Atlanta’s Morehouse University, Mateen worked for quite some time down South. Relocating to NY in 1988, he obtained the desire gig of several young jazz music artists: an area in Betty Carter’s music group. He also caused trumpeter/film composer Terence Blanchard within the rating for the Spike Lee film Malcolm X, along with the Malcolm X Jazz Collection. Mateen’s R&B and hip-hop credits consist of such notable functions as Monica, Outkast, Goodie Mob, the Origins, Fugees, De La Spirit, and Fishbone. Within the jazz part, he performs and information most frequently with pianist Marc Cary. He also works together with vibraphonist Stefon Harris, along with the New Directions music group, which include Harris, Greg Osby, Jason Moran, and Tag Shim. In 2000, alongside drummer Nasheet Waits, he made an appearance on two stellar piano trio albums: Marc Cary’s Trillium and Jason Moran’s Facing Remaining.
