Tarnation

The united states art music group Tarnation was essentially a car for Paula Frazer, a talented singer and songwriter who returned to roots music only following a successful foray into 1980s post-punk. Frazer was created and elevated in Sautee Nacoochee, GA, a little community situated in the foothills from the Smoky Mountains, while a kid she sang in her father’s cathedral choir, creating a extremely adept soprano. At age 14, the Frazers transferred to Arkansas, where she started performing with regional jazz groupings. After graduating senior high school, Frazer relocated to SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, where she implemented a stint within a Bulgarian women’s choir with tenures in several area punk groupings, especially the all-female Frightwig. In 1992, she produced Tarnation with previous S.F. Seals associates Lincoln Allen and Michelle Cernuto, alongside metal guitarist Matt Sullivan. Placing their dark ballads and like music against a stark, ominous backdrop dominated by reverb-soaked guitars, Tarnation debuted in 1993 with I’ll OFFER YOU Something to Cry About. In 1995, they released Gentle Animals, their initial LP for the arty United kingdom label 4AD. Soon after the record’s discharge, Allen, Cernuto, and Sullivan still left the group and had been changed by guitarist Alex Oropeza, drummer Joe Byrnes, and bassist/lap metal player Costs Cuevas.
