b. 1977, Ikaluktuutiak (Cambridge Bay), Nunavut, Victoria Isle, Canada. Raised within an Inuit community, Gillis examined at Nova Scotia University of Artwork and Style in Halifax. While there, she had taken a pastime in traditional Inuit neck performing, a multiphonic and percussive type that’s customarily performed by two different people. Gillis was appreciated to instruct herself a single variation and afterwards taught others, hence generating companions with whom she could sing in duo. In 2000, Gillis was at the fantastic Northern Arts Celebration where a few of her paintings had been exhibited. Unexpectedly asked to sing, she enticed interest and was suggested to Björk.
