Tanya Tagaq

b. 1977, Ikaluktuutiak (Cambridge Bay), Nunavut, Victoria Isle, Canada. Raised within an Inuit community, Gillis examined at Nova Scotia University of Artwork and Style in Halifax. While there, she had taken a pastime in traditional Inuit neck performing, a multiphonic and percussive type that’s customarily performed by two different people. Gillis was appreciated to instruct herself a single variation and afterwards taught others, hence generating companions with whom she could sing in duo. In 2000, Gillis was at the fantastic Northern Arts Celebration where a few of her paintings had been exhibited. Unexpectedly asked to sing, she enticed interest and was suggested to Björk. The next year she became a member of the Icelandic vocalist on tour, showing up on her behalf 2004 record, Medulla.
