Biography

Creator of a forward thinking fusion of Indian bhangra music and drum’n’bass electronica, Talvin Singh was classically trained in the tabla but rejected the majority of his learning when he founded the Anokha membership night in East London’s Blue Be aware. Singh was raised in Leytonstone, and even though he started playing tabla at age five, he also enjoyed to breakdance to electro and pay attention to punk rock and roll. He was transplanted to India at age 16 to go after a traditional education, but afterwards came back to Britain in the past due ’80s and started picking up are a musician, using a different cast of performers — Sunlight Ra, Björk, Upcoming Sound of London, Siouxsie & the Banshees, as well as the Indigo Young ladies, amongst others. By past due 1995, Singh founded Anokha, the membership evening where drum’n’bass DJs and Asian punk rings went face to face using the amped-up noises of his tabla and percussion. Visitor places by LTJ Bukem among others produced Anokha a Mon night spot in London, and Singh authorized to Isle for an Anokha compilation including many of his personal productions. He also worked well like a remixer before issuing his appropriate solo debut, Okay. in past due 1998.
