Taka Boom


The sister of Chaka Khan, vocalist Yvonne Stephens forged a fresh identity by combining the Swahili word for “love of my people” (“Taka”) with a final name produced from her ex-husband’s occupation (demolitions expert). She worked well alongside Khan locally within their hometown of Chicago until Chaka became a member of Rufus, and Taka transferred to LA. Increase was a program vocalist in the first ’70s, singing using the Difference Music group and Carl Carlton, in addition to as being a person in George Clinton’s Wedding brides of Funkenstein. She offered as business lead vocalist for Undisputed Truth in 1975, after that signed being a single vocalist with Ariola. Her debut LP, Taka Increase, premiered in 1979, as well as the one “Night Dance” became her just R&B Best 20 strike (at 20). She afterwards turned to Mirage, and produced the LP Environment for Appreciate in 1985. “Middle of the night time” got some interest as an individual, however the LP proceeded to go nowhere. After shifting to London within the middle-’90s, she do session function and constant live appearances.
