West Coastline experimental techno manufacturer Seth Horvitz has recorded for many from the electronic world’s esteemed brands, including Germany’s Drive Inc and Mille Plateaux, as well as California’s own Drop Defeat and Cytrax. A enthusiast of dance since his early-’90s university days at Berkeley, Horvitz started experimenting with consumer electronics and DJing in 1992 and released his initial material 3 years later, over the Swivel compilation released by regional label Belief Systems, that is linked to Horvitz’s label, Context. His discharge schedule extended with work with other Bay Region brands, including Cytrax and Hold off, and in 1998 he released the Influenza EP on Drop Defeat. The split discharge Deadpan Escapement (with Twerk and Basic safety Scissors) also made an appearance that calendar year on Belief Systems. During 1999, he documented the Miasma EP for Drive Inc, and readied his debut full-length for Mille Plateaux. The effect, Periods SEEM SENSIBLE, made an appearance in early 2000. Efforts to the initial two amounts of Clicks + Slashes followed, as do a set of paths for Theorem’s THX series and, in 2002, the “live” recording Incest.
