Biography

The original vocal noises of Ireland are fused with today’s urban sensibility by Dublin-born and New York-based vocalist Susan McKeown (pronounced “mick-yone”). Associated with her music group, the Chanting Home, McKeown’s alto vocals possess inspired evaluations to June Tabor, Chrissie Hynde, Sarah McLachlan, Sophistication Slick, and Sandy Denny. McKeown’s musical strategy was defined by Time newspaper as “the type of music which will hyperlink Ireland’s musical past using its upcoming.” Since immigrating towards the U.S. in 1990 using a scholarship to wait the American Music and Dramatic Academy in NEW YORK, McKeown continues to be attracting interest with her active vocals and enthusiastic stage persona. The Chanting Home, which initially centered on an up to date edition of traditional Irish music when founded by McKeown, Eileen Ivers, and Seamus Egan, significantly added components of contemporary rock following the departures of Ivers and Egan in 1993. Although they released a set of self-produced cassettes, Chanting Home Live and Snakes, in the first ’90s, McKeown as well as the Chanting Home came into their very own using the 1-800-PRIME-CD-released Bone fragments in 1996. In 1999, Mom: Special event of Moms & Motherhood, by McKeown, Cathie Ryan, and Robin Spielberg, was released on North Celebrity, as well as the McKeown recording Lowlands made an appearance on Green Linnet in fall 2000. McKeown released A Winter season Talisman, which she was became a member of by Cunningham and Aidan Brennan, on her behalf personal Sheila-na-Gig label in 2001; she also self-released Prophecy in 2002. Globe Village issued Lovely Liberty in 2004 and adopted with Blackthorn: Irish Like Tracks in 2006.
