In 1972, Med Flory and Friend Clark formed a five-sax non-et (usually including a trumpeter) focused on taking part in the harmonized solos of Charlie Parker. Their recordings for Capitol, MPS, and Columbia (unlike their live shows) didn’t contain anybody saxophone solos and discovered the sax section playing note-for-note Parrot improvisations (like the roller-coaster “Ko Ko”) with amazing precision. Clark remaining the music group in 1975, but Flory continuing the group on the part-time basis for a number of decades, sometimes utilizing the L.A. Voices. Among the very best sidemen over time have been Expenses Perkins, Warne Marsh, Jay Migliori, Jack port Nimitz, Lanny Morgan, trumpeter Conte Candoli, and trombonist Carl Fontana.
