Sunbear

Vocalist/drummer Arnie Oliver, aka Ahaguna G. Sunlight, and vocalist/guitarist Werner “Carry” Schuchner comprised Sunbear, a little-known spirit/funk vocal duo that documented in LA in 1977. Globe, Wind & Open fire was much impact on Sunbear, and there have been also tips of Tower of Power and Un Chicano within their audio. In 1977, Sunbear documented its self-titled debut recording for Don Cornelius and Dick Griffey’s Spirit Train Information, which progressed into Solar Information after Cornelius’ departure in 1978. Sunbear split up without ever documenting a second recording, and Oliver and Schuchner both continued to pursue alternative activities in the R&B globe. Oliver joined up with Frankie Beverly’s Maze, while Schuchner performed electric guitar on albums with the Whispers, the Spirit Train Gang, Great Inergy, among others. In 1980, the Whispers documented Sunbear’s ballad “Illusion” because of their hit album Creativity.
