Sumac is a trio in the Pacific Northwest whose intense, organic sound falls somewhere within sludge steel and experimental noise-rock. The group was founded in 2014 by guitarist/vocalist Aaron Turner (Isis, Aged Man Gloom, Mamiffer) along with Canadian drummer Nick Yacyshyn (Baptists, Hard Emotions) and bassist Brian Make (Botch, These Hands Are Snakes, Russian Circles). Turner stations his challenges with stress and anxiety into Sumac’s mammoth, punishing compositions, which frequently go beyond the ten-minute tag and include many time changes aswell as periodic ambient interludes. Sumac’s debut full-length, THE OFFER, premiered in 2015 being a dual LP by Sige and on Compact disc by Profound Lore. The group after that agreed upon to Thrill Jockey, which released their second record, What One Becomes, in 2016.
