Studer/Doran

Swiss drummer/percussionist Fredy Studer and Dublin-born and Lucerne, Switzerland-raised electrical guitarist Christy Doran have collaborated in a number of jazz-inspired tasks. Initially working collectively in Om, a jazz fusion group they created in 1972, they continued to try out with Crimson Twist & Tuned Arrow, an organization they distributed to guitar, synthesizer, and sequencer participant Stephan Wittwer, in 1986 and 1987. They continuing to play collectively in the past due-’80s with Doran/Studer/Burn off/Magnenat (later on renamed Doran/Studer/Gerber/Magnenat), and created an organization, Doran, Studer, Minton, Bates, Ali, to execute the music of Jimi Hendrix, in 1993. The next 12 months, Django Bates was changed by cellist Tom Cora. They created a quartet with vocalist/trumpet participant Phil Minton and dual bassist Amin Ali in 1995. Studer and Doran’s collaborations represent just a small cut of both music artists’ professions. A self-taught drummer/percussionist, Studer’s resumé contains stints using the Franco Ambrosetti Quartet as well as the France AM/George Gruntz Quartet, offering Joe Henderson, Miroslav Vitous, Jack port DeJohnette, and Dave Holland, the Charlie Mariano & Jasper van’t Hof Group, as well as the 1980s trio Bruninghaus, Stockhausen & Studen. He participated in worldwide drum-led rings Percussion Profiles, offering DeJohnette, Gruntz, Pierre Favre, Dom Um Romao, and David Friedman, and Perc Ens Performing Drums, offering Favre, Paul Motian, and Nana Vasconcelos. The sibling of drummer/percussionist Dave Doran and saxophonist Brigeen Doran, Doran caused his siblings in the Doran Music group, which they distributed in the first ’90s with drummer/percussionist Fredy Miller. Studer/Doran’s initial album being a duo, Half of a Life time, released in 1994, highlighted guest performances by guitarist Sonny Sharrock, trombone participant Ray Anderson, percussionist/vocalist Trilok Gurtu, and electrical bassist Jamaaladeen Tacuma.
