An alluring electro-pop duo comprising Brooklyn native Kitty Martino, an enigmatic singer/songwriter with a robust voice who spent some time working carefully with Sufjan Stevens over time, and Sven Britt, a talented multi-instrumentalist, Stranger Kitty formed in 2012 when Martino still left bustling Brooklyn for the tranquil Sierra Nevadas. There, she and Britt started laying the groundwork for what would ultimately become their debut record, pairing basic melodies with complicated beats, even while soaking in the wonder and general weirdness (UFO sightings, hauntings) from the Pacific Northwest. The causing and aptly called In the Wilderness, an psychologically charged stream of icy, brand-new wave-kissed, ambient indie pop, was released via Joyful Sound in early 2015.
