Often from the NY downtown scene, Steve Swell can be an underrated trombonist and a genuine team player with the capacity of adapting to many situations. He incidentally found the trombone when he was ten. In 1973, he researched at Jersey Town State University where he struck a long-lasting a friendly relationship with drummer Lou Grassi. He continued to review with Roswell Rudd who, alongside Grachan Moncur III and Costs Watrous, produced the most powerful impression on him. Swell after that moved up with the rates learning the ropes with Lionel Hampton, Pal Affluent, and Jaki Byard. In the first ‘80s, he spent lots of time playing Broadway displays with the Roseland. Within the middle-’80s, he fulfilled Ken McIntyre and Walter Thompson, who reignited his fascination with creative music. For Natural herb Robertson and Hank Roberts, they provided him an initial taste of European countries. In the first ‘90s, he obtained some more publicity with Tim Berne’s music group in addition to Joey Baron’s Barondown and Phillip Johnston’s Big Difficulty. Carrying on to enrich his knowledge being a sideman he afterwards joined up with THE TINY Huey Innovative Music Orchestra, Lou Grassi’s PoBand, and Jemeel Moondoc’s Jus Grew Orchestra. In 1996, he documented his first record under his very own name with saxophonist Chris Kelsey, Observations.
