b. 18 Sept 1951, LA, California, USA. Getting started playing saxophones while still extremely young, Slagle relocated to the contrary side of the united states where he analyzed in the Berklee University Of Music. Subsequently, and with the 70s, he caused artists as varied as Stevie Question, John Scofield and Machito. In the first years of another 10 years he was with Woody Herman’s music group, playing tenor saxophone, and in addition caused Lionel Hampton, playing alto, and Charlie Haden, Carla Bley, Steve Kuhn, and Mingus Dynasty. By the end from the 80s he was musical movie director for the Ray Barretto Music group. His first recording as a innovator premiered in 1983, and through the 80s he frequently caused a quartet offering Jaco Pastorius (bass), Mike Stern (acoustic guitar) and Adam Nussbaum (drums). In the next decade Slagle documented several classes for SteepleChase Information, with music artists including Tim Hagans and Ryan Kisor (trumpets), Kenny Drew Jnr. (piano), Cameron Dark brown (bass), and Gene Jackson (drums). Slagle also co-leads an organization with Dave Stryker (acoustic guitar), and functions as business lead altoist and main arranger using the Mingus Big Music group. An excellent stylist, who also takes on soprano saxophone and clarinet, Slagle’s function shows his abiding curiosity within the transitional music that adopted hard bop into free of charge jazz, although he’s at his substantial greatest when he underpins these latter-day forms using the essence from the blues. His impressive specialized mastery of his musical instruments is always noticeable but it is certainly never useful for its sake. Although adept on all of the musical instruments in his arsenal, Slagle could very well be must interesting on alto, where his sinuous single lines develop a musical atmosphere that’s both challenging and powerful in its strength.
