Sterling Bose

An excellent early cornetist who was simply influenced by Bix Beiderbecke, Sterling Bose hardly ever updated his style, even though playing in golf swing bands. He obtained early experience sitting down in with New Orleans-style rings before shifting to St. Louis in 1923. He performed and recorded using the Crescent Town Jazzers as well as the Arcadian Serenaders through the next couple of years. Bose was with Jean Goldkette’s Orchestra in Detroit during 1927-1928 (the time after Beiderbecke acquired departed). He was an associate of radio place WGN’s house music group in Chicago until signing up for Ben Pollack (1930-1933). Bose caused Eddie Sheasby in Chicago and became a studio room musician in NY. He was with Joe Haymes during 1934-1935, sticking to the music group for a while after Tommy Dorsey required over its management. Bose was an integral participant with Ray Noble’s American Music group in 1936, which yr spent a few weeks with Benny Goodman’s Orchestra (before Harry Wayne) where his Bix design did not actually easily fit into. Bose then experienced stints with Lana Webster, Glenn Miller (1937), Bob Crosby (1937-1939) as well as the short-lived Bobby Hackett big music group (1939). He also caused Bob Zurke’s Orchestra, Jack port Teagarden’s big music group, Bud Freeman’s Orchestra (1942), George Brunies, and Bobby Sherwood (1943). Bose used Miff Mole and Artwork Hodes, was briefly with Horace Heidt (1944), and mainly freelanced in NY and Chicago. He resolved in Florida in 1948 where he led his personal groups. An extended illness resulted in him committing suicide in 1958 at age group 52. Although Sterling Bose by no means led his personal record day, he documented with a number of organizations in the past due ’20s and through the entire 30’s.
